60 Year Olds at Beena

Following the team selection on 13-Dec which saw Leigh Hardham relegated to the thirds - the first time he has ever been dropped to that team - I was asked (a) how often have two sixty year olds played in the same team, and (b) is this third XI the oldest over put into the field. I crunched the numbers and it turns out that prior to this match there have been 22 occurrences where a pair of 60 year olds took the field together. Interestingly all since 2008, after Ian Walker and David Hardham turned 60, playing alongside Don McDermott. It is however only the second time that two players aged 65 have played together.

As to the oldest team in the thirds, the selected 3rd XI has the highest average age of any team in the club where I have all 11 birthdates. There are half-a-dozen games with a higher average, but I don't have the birthdates for some players - I would expect with all eleven dates the average would drop. The average age of the 3rd XI for round 9 is 43 years 166 days
